Bursaries​

For 2018 the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School offered a small number of bursaries for summer school attendance to students and early-career researchers. The bursaries are sponsored by the organisers and the University of Oxford e-Research Centre.

 

The aim of the scheme is to enable students and researchers to go to an event they would not usually have the opportunity to attend, then disseminate what they have learnt to others within the field. This could be in the form of blogs or social media activity during the summer school, a report on their experience, a podcast or a presentation/workshop at their own institution. Further details including the eligibility criteria are given below.

Bursary application process open: Monday 12 March

Deadline for applications: Tuesday 3 April

Successful applicants notified: Monday 30 April

What the bursary covers

​

The bursaries cover:
 

• the registration fee

• attendance at one week-long workshop strand

• the additional lectures (subject to availability)

• lunches each day and morning/afternoon refreshments

• the welcome drinks and research poster reception, the TORCH public lecture, and the walking tour of Oxford (subject to availability). 

 

Accommodation, travel and evening meals are not included.

Other important information

​

On application you will be asked to specify your workshop choice. However workshop selection is subject to availability and should you be successful, we advise you to complete the booking process as early as possible.

If you wish to be considered for a bursary please do not register until after your bursary application has been assessed.
 

Eligibility

 

Bursary holders should:

​

• be a doctoral, MPhil, masters’ or undergraduate student in full-time or part-time education, or

• be an early-career researcher in a higher or further education institution not more than 3 years past receipt of their PhD (i.e. passed the viva examination in April 2015 or later)

• not have already registered for DHOxSS 2018

• not have received a bursary to attend DHOxSS in previous years

Selection

​

Applicants are required to provide:

​

• A short statement of their intended use of digital techniques in their area of research and the benefits they expect from attending DHOxSS 2018. (Max 250 words.)
   

• A statement on how they will share what they have learned at the summer school within their institution or the wider Digital Humanities community eg a blog, workshop, presentation, report, social media posts or podcast/video. (Max 250 words.)

Preference will be given by the judging panel to applicants who demonstrated the most benefit from attending and the most effective dissemination methods.

​

In 2017 we received a large field of exceptionally high quality applications (over 130), which were anonymized and double-reviewed to produce a long-list that was subsequently double-reviewed again to make the final list.
